The End … or Maybe It’s the Beginning

Well, this will probably be my last post here on Leopard&Grace. The past 2 months have been a transformation to say the least, and as this chapter is ending and a new one is beginning, I think it’s time for a new blog space.

I have always tried to be an honest, transparent person and since writing/blogging is my therapeutic outlet, I have never had a problem opening up and sharing my life. But there has been one thing that I have not shared, and have not spoken (or written) about, so it’s time for a real life update…..

In two days, I will go before a judge to dissolve my marriage. Paperwork was signed and filed last week, and our court date is only 53 days since we decided to separate. (In MA, there is a 120 day waiting period, so the divorce will not be “officially-official” until early March). Things have been surprisingly (and gratefully) amicable, so deciding on things like parenting time, holiday time, splitting of assets, was fairly easy. He moves out of our house this coming weekend, and I move out the week after Thanksgiving, and then we close on our house on 12/1.

This news has shocked pretty much everyone in our life. Not a single person saw it coming. We had just celebrated our five-year wedding anniversary, and to outsiders (and on social media) things looked, well, perfect. But our split had been a long time coming, and even so, I truly struggled with making this decision. How on earth do you decide to end something that was supposed to be “forever”?

I won’t go into the details, because I am still a fiercely private person when it comes to my personal relationships. But there was no wrongdoing on either side, no one big massive blow out that determined the end. I was private about our struggles, because I really thought that one day, I’d wake up and we would be happy again. I didn’t want other people to get into my head, to influence my decision, or steer me in one direction or another. What I will say, is that this was an incredibly difficult decision, but after much thought, prayer and soul searching, I am convinced is the right one.

I will always be grateful to him, because he gave me the most amazing gift – the gift of being a mom – which was my biggest dream in this life. She is the best parts of both of us, and a reminder that while our marriage was not perfect, we created something that was.

Our main focus is, and always will be, her. She deserves to have an amazing life, and she deserves to be surrounded by love and happiness. She deserves to have two parents who are happy and well-adjusted and fulfilled, even if that means they aren’t together. My heart is sad that our family unit will not be what I had always imagined, but I am hopeful that, in time, we will all be okay.

I couldn’t have gotten through these last few weeks without the support of our family and friends, my people, who are now helping us to pick up the pieces and move forward. I can’t thank them enough for the love, tears, laughter and support. The days ahead will be difficult as we navigate this new path, but I am confident that in the end, it will all be okay.

In closing, my thoughts are this: Love your spouse. Love them every day. Commit to them every day. Cherish what you have. Protect it above anything else. Because marriage is hard, and life throws you some crazy curve balls, and if you don’t protect the most important thing – each other – then, in the end, nothing else matters.

My new blog is under construction, so please be sure to follow me on Instagram @gentelly for updates!

Thank you for reading, commenting, the love and friendship. I’ll see you soon …. and as I embark on a new chapter, feeling a little bit scared and sad, but mostly hopeful, happy and ready.

Cheers to whatever life brings me next.

xo,

Gentel

Friday Favorites: Amazon Finds

If you’re a mom, then you probably shop on Amazon way more often than you care to admit, amiright?

I’m obsessed with my Prime membership and take full advantage of it! I buy most of our necessities from Amazon, work/office supplies, I’m obsessed with Amazon Music and am going to be trying out Amazon Fresh this week too.

So, I thought I would do a fun round up of my favorite items I’ve gotten from Amazon recently.

1) Listening to the new Old Dominion album – these guys are incredible! Even if you are not a country music fan, give them a shot. They are super talented, and their lyrics are so catchy! Gracie’s favorite song is “Not Everything’s About You” – she calls it the “loud song” and knows every word.

2) The best coffee – I’m partial to Hawaiian coffee (obviously), and this one is my absolute favorite. I like it hot or iced, with a little bit of vanilla almond milk. So yummy.

3) Collagen supplement – I have been hearing such good things about adding collagen to your diet, so I decided to give this a try! It doesn’t taste or smell like anything, and it dissolves easily, so you can add it any drink you want. I usually add a scoop of this to my morning coffee. When I take it regularly, I definitely notice a difference in my skin/hair/nails.

4) Tinkle Razors – I’m getting real here. If you don’t shave your face, you are missing out. It exfoliates your skin leaving it so smooth and soft. It takes some getting used to, but my skin feels incredible. It’s one of the most effective tools I’ve used since my skin can get so dry. Just try it. It’s $6. You have nothing to lose 🙂

5) Accupressure mat – this thing will change your life! It is amazing!!! I lay on it at night and it really helps me to relax, and I sleep so much better! It’s also great if I have a headache or migraine.

6) Frownies – ok, real talk. Wrinkles. UGH. I hate them! I have what are known as “11s”, and if you have them, you know what I’m talking about. Someone recommended these to me (I mean, they are a heck of a lot cheaper than Botox!). I wear them at night 1-2 times a week, and it makes a HUGE difference!! Plus, they come in a box of 144, so it will last you for-freaking-ever.

What are your favorite Amazon finds??? I’m always looking for new things to try!

Happy Friday lovelies!

Linking up with Amanda, Andrea and Katie.

Weekend Snaps

My weekends feel especially long, since Gracie and I are off from school/work Friday-Monday, and we definitely make the most of those four days!

Friday, Gracie started her second season of dance! I’m a little unsure if she’s going to end up loving dance, but we’re going to keep going until she says otherwise!

Friday night, I hosted a “sign” workshop. These parties are becoming so popular, and they are so much fun!

Saturday morning, we woke up and went to breakfast and then checked out the planes taking off and landing. While we were admiring the planes through the fence, a nice man came up to us and asked if we wanted to check one of the planes out in person. My child was in heaven. She LOVES planes! She was thrilled to get to sit in it and pretend to “fly” it. She told us she was going to the beach – sounds good to me 🙂 He even gave her a “wing” pin to commemorate the occasion! It was so cute, and very sweet of this man to take a few minutes to make her day.

Sunday, we went to check out a local sunflower farm. I LOVE this place. The sunflowers are only in full bloom for a few days, and it seemed like everyone else had the same idea as us, but it was so worth it! They are stunning.

I really think that September might be my favorite month. It’s still warm, but not humid, there is a bit of crispness to the air and I swear, the sky is just so much bluer.

Monday, we wrapped our long weekend with a second dance class. Gracie started a Hip Hop Tumbling class, and it was adorable. She loves to jump and run and dance around, so I think this class is going to be perfect for her!

After dance, we went to two different playgrounds. Trying to soak in the nice weather while we can!

Tomorrow is back to the grind …. school for her, and work for me! I feel pretty lucky to be able to work part time and be home with her part time, it’s really the best of both worlds <3

Happy Tuesday, friends!

XO
